Playground opens in Stelzendorf

On Wednesday, 27 March at 3 pm, the Stelzendorf playground, Neukirchner Straße/corner of Stelzendorfer Aue*, will be opened in the presence of representatives of the City of Chemnitz and the Citizens' Platform West.
The near-natural play landscape was rebuilt after multiple consultations with parents from Stelzendorf, the Citizens' Platform West and various city councillors.

The result is a landscape that encourages free play and blends into the grounds surrounded by mature trees. A curved path made of wood chippings provides access to the small playground from the existing driveway to the planned sandpit. In addition to an open area with shrubs and small mounds of grass, which resembles a forest clearing, a horse seesaw and a double bar have been installed. A hill was also created on which wooden logs were integrated to encourage climbing and balancing.

The 1.20 metre high play hill, which can be conquered both above and below ground via a crawl tunnel, is adjacent to the sandpit, which has a natural surround.
Various shrubs for playing hide-and-seek or as a place of retreat, as well as two benches and a litter bin round off the design, which offers the children a variety of play options.

In order to realise the construction project as quickly as possible, the Chemnitz City Council decided to provide additional funds in 2023. Work began at the beginning of October 2023.
The construction costs, including the tree maintenance work already carried out, amount to around 50,000 euros. The work was carried out by Grünbau Bad Schlema GmbH.
