"Large playground" in Küchwaldpark
The "large playground" in Küchwaldpark is an important focal point for children and young people in Chemnitz. Due to its age, it was in need of renovation in many areas and was completely rebuilt in summer 2024. The project was divided into two service areas: "landscaping" and "play equipment". The landscaping work was carried out by Grünbau Bad Schlema GmbH and formed the basis for the construction of the play areas. The previous structure of the playground was largely retained and further play areas were added.
A competition was held for the play equipment, based on the theme "Wiesenkosmos" (meadow cosmos). The competition was won by the company Quappen Holzbau GmbH from 49751 Sögel. As a result of the design, which is characterised by a natural design language as well as diverse and inclusive play and movement elements, various play areas were created.
In addition to a sand play area for small children, a hill play area with a viewing platform, a covered seating and picnic area, there is a large main play area with three slides, various rope and climbing elements and five platforms, some of which are covered. The largest platform is approx. four metres high and is also equipped with coloured wall elements. The main play area is accessible to all thanks to barrier-free access. Children and young people can also enjoy a new ropeway, a six-corner swing, seesaw elements, slackline posts and a mother-child swing.
The costs totalled around 511,000 euros. The landscaping work was carried out by Grünbau Bad Schlema GmbH. The play equipment was manufactured and erected by Quappen Holzbau GmbH. Construction supervision was carried out by Kretzschmar & Partner, Dresden.
Day of action "Chemnitz families on the move"
The "Chemnitz families on the move" day of action is organised by Chemnitz stakeholders together with the city sports association, many Chemnitz clubs, the local alliance for families and stakeholders of the European Week of Sport and invites you to the traditional children's rights search and sports game in front of the Küchwaldbühne. A new feature is the swap meet at the Glückskäfer day care centre. This will be organised by volunteers. The swap meet for children's items invites everyone to get active according to the motto "Bring along and/or take away". Participants can look forward to frisbee, theatre guessing, running backwards and much more. The event is part of the European Mobility Week and the European Week of Sport.
Families can experience the Küchwald forest together with their children in the adventure labyrinth, explore and search for the individual children's rights, run, jump, skip and guess together. At the end of the exciting round of activities, the children can win a surprise from the Chemnitz Environmental Award and the park railway with the stamp card handed out at the start.
