Playground on the Schloßteichinsel is opened
Invitation: on 1 June, 2 p.m. - Three-part playscape for three to twelve-year-olds
On Thursday, 1 June - International Children's Day - 2 p.m., the newly designed playground on the Schloßteichinsel will be officially opened by Mayor Michael Stötzer.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
The playground is very popular and had to be completely renewed due to wear and tear. A three-part play landscape for children aged three to twelve has been created under the title "Schloßteichinsel". In addition to the central play area with a pile of reeds that can be climbed, a navigable crown and chill nests, a tree house with a variety of climbing options and a swing island invite children to romp and play. The individual elements "pond, castle and island" are creatively realised so that the varied and natural play equipment blends in well with the listed site.
The aim for the new facility was not only to design it in a child-friendly way with a variety of play functions. Special attention was also paid to an inclusive play concept. All children, regardless of age or gender and according to their individual abilities, should be able to use the playground alone and together with others. For example, a navigable wooden wave walkway leads into the central play area and offers various visual and acoustic games with its imaginative details such as distorting mirrors, tic-tac-toe and spinning and sound games.
An ingenious guidance system with differently shaped handrails and high-contrast colours makes it easier to find and reach the individual pieces of play equipment, while also providing visual and tactile stimuli.
Comfortable seating and a seating fence are also available for parents, carers and all other visitors.
The project was planned and realised by JACOB + BILZ Landschaftsarchitekten PartnerschaftsG mbB from Chemnitz. In autumn 2022, Grünbau Bad Schlema GmbH began with the landscaping work and Zimmer.Obst GmbH with the construction of the play equipment. After a weather-related break in construction from December 2022 to April 2023, the work will be completed by the end of May. To protect the grass and wooded areas, a metal knee railing will have to be erected by the start of the summer holidays.
The total construction costs for the landscaping and play equipment amount to 354,000 euros. The project was subsidised with urban development funds from the federal government and the Free State of Saxony and, of course, funds from the City of Chemnitz.
Please note:
Due to the "Fuego a la isla" festival, the playground can only be used to a limited extent on the first weekend in June.
