Playground on the Schloßteichinsel is being redesigned
Start of construction on 5 October - Play and exercise in nature
Construction work on the public playground on Schloßteichinsel will begin on Wednesday, 5 October. The facility is to be redesigned for children aged three to twelve years with offers for exercise, play, interaction and rest. The work is expected to last until spring 2023.
The public playground on the Schloßteichinsel is part of the listed Chemnitz Schloßteichanlagen. The play and leisure facility is divided into three play areas, which will be connected via unpaved paths (with a water-bound path surface). The previously paved areas around the play areas will be restored with the so-called Ostrava path surface. The existing play areas will be bordered by curved lines of granite paving. Ecocolour woodchippings will be used as fall protection. Some of the existing equipment such as benches, litter bins and wooden railings will be retained or newly built and erected. The basic shape of the playground will not change.
The "castle pond island" theme is reflected in the new play equipment. Analogous to the three-part base area of the playground, the play equipment for the three to twelve age group is organised according to different play functions: "castle pond island" (central play area), "tree house" (western play area) and "swings" (eastern play area). Overall, the playground combines climbing, slides, swings, seesaws, play and movement, peace and communication, creative design and the opportunity to experience nature.
The work is being carried out by the companies Grünbau Bad Schlema GmbH (landscaping) and Zimmer.Obst GmbH, Spreenhagen (play equipment construction). The construction costs totalled around 348,000 euros.
