Playground on Andréplatz - toddler area
Start of the second construction phase on 8 March
Tomorrow, work will begin on the second construction phase of the playground on Andréplatz - in the toddler area.
Firstly, the existing toddler play equipment (playhouse, play table, seesaw, seesaw animals, sandpit) will be dismantled. Three new pieces of play equipment will then be installed: a playhouse, a flower table and a new "owl" seesaw animal. The colours of the new play equipment will be matched to the existing play equipment combination. The 120 square metre sand play area will be redesigned. In addition, 250 square metres of water-bound (unsealed) path surface will be repaired.
Tiefbau Böhm GmbH & Co. KG GmbH from Chemnitz has been commissioned to carry out the work. The playground should be completed by the end of April. The construction costs amount to approx. 36,000 euros. One hundred per cent of the funding will come from compensation payments from the Kaßberg redevelopment area.
The children were able to take possession of the first part of the playground renovation on Andréplatz on 1 June 2016. (see also press release no. 300 dated 27 May 2016) A new combination of play equipment consisting of a slide, climbing wall and footbridge, wobbly bridge and platforms was installed on the playground area. The custom-built structure, measuring 22 by 12 metres, is suitable for children aged six to twelve. The construction costs for this totalled around 67,000 euros.
Play options were discussed with the young users and their parents back in 2015. In addition to staff from the Parks Department, the City of Chemnitz's children's officer, Ute Spindler, was also involved in the planning.
The playground on Andréplatz measures around 400 square metres in total. The refurbishment has also been agreed with the monument protection authority, as Andréplatz is a listed building.
