Playground in Küchwaldpark to be renovated

At its meeting today, the city council decided to renovate the playground in Küchwaldpark.

To ensure that the playground meets the wishes and needs of its young and old users, they were involved in the design. Children from the Schloßschule were consulted in an initial round back in October 2017. Initial ideas were collected and a wish list was received from the children. In spring 2021, the children and youth officer, Ute Spindler, carried out a second round of participation with children from the "Kappelino" after-school care centre. The results were then presented at the Küchwaldbühne in May 2021. The playground will now be realised with the theme "Meadow cosmos - a journey of discovery to plants and insects". The production of the corresponding play equipment will be put out to tender as a competition.

The result will be an interesting, attractive and varied play landscape with elements and arrangements that can be used by children of all ages and with different motor and mental abilities. In addition, more recreational opportunities will be created for adults so that they can also feel comfortable and families in particular can spend more time there.

The existing playground area will be retained, and the design and area sizes will be based on the existing layout. The fall protection and play areas will be renovated.

The entrances to the playground will also be retained. They will be refurbished and made accessible in the listed park.

The costs for planning, landscaping and play equipment total around 615,000 euros.

The tendering and awarding of the services will begin in summer 2023, with construction work expected to start in April 2024. The work will take around four months, meaning that the playground equipment areas can be used again in the third quarter of 2024.
