Playground equipment at the Pelzmühle is replaced

At the play and leisure facility at the Pelzmühle in the grounds next to Chemnitz Zoo, signs of wear and tear were discovered on the wooden components of the "Giraffe" play equipment during the regular annual inspection of the facility by the Parks Department. This wear is a natural process in wood, which cannot be stopped by regular care and maintenance - as is the case with the "Giraffe". After a professional assessment of the damaged areas, the use of the play equipment did not have to be prohibited and therefore no barriers were installed. However, it was decided to dismantle the "giraffe", which had already been in the facility for eleven years, as repairing the various damaged areas on the wood would have required a complete refurbishment that would have been unprofitable overall.

The landscaping company Liebscher & Partner GmbH Garten- und Landschaftsbau / Kommunalservice from Chemnitz was commissioned with the dismantling. Work on the play and leisure facility at the Pelzmühle will begin on Monday (23 September), with the play equipment area having to be fenced off during the work.

As part of this construction work by the Parks Department, however, three new smaller roundabouts will also be installed in the area of the existing fall protection area. The construction of these three roundabouts will also be carried out by the landscaping company Liebscher & Partner and should be completed by mid-October following the dismantling of the "Giraffe".

The Parks Department is investing 8,000 euros in replacing the play equipment at the Pelzmühle play and leisure centre.
