Playground concept 2025 is being updated
Following extensive public participation, the playground concept 2025, which was adopted by the city council on 21 May 2014, has been updated. This update of the playground concept was approved by the city council today.
The reasons for updating the concept are, firstly, that the development forecasts show an increase in the number of children and therefore an increased need for playgrounds and, secondly, that the city of Chemnitz has more money available for play and leisure facilities.
The updated concept stipulates that all public play and leisure facilities are to be planned and realised inclusively. This means barrier-free accessibility to the playground and the individual play zones as well as a variety of equipment with different levels of difficulty so that children can play together. Inclusion in playgrounds means the possibility of use and participation in play for everyone - regardless of age, gender, origin or individual abilities.
Another aspect of the concept is the involvement of users and residents as so-called playground sponsors, who contribute to the planning and maintenance of the facilities. The administration is offering this opportunity again after a 10-year break. Regular meetings of the playground sponsors will then be held at the Parks Department, where new developments and experiences can be reported from both sides.
The comprehensive playground concept contains details on which municipal playgrounds and leisure facilities in Chemnitz are to be renovated, extended or, if necessary, dismantled.
