Play and leisure facilities in Chemnitz completed

Mayor Michael Stötzer will hand over new play and leisure facilities for public use on Friday, 5 April at 10 am, 11 am and 3 pm.
10 a.m.: Playground in the "Park am Falkeplatz"
The play area was subsequently included in the funding programme on behalf of the Pelzmühle project. At a cost of 183,000 euros, Chemnitz was given the opportunity to replace the worn-out play bridge with new play facilities for children aged 3 to 12 in the short term. While the renovated climbing bridge, the horizontal bar and the nest swing have been given a facelift, the slide towers offer a completely new range of play options for young and old at this location.
11 a.m.: "Albert-Schweitzer-Straße" play area
The play area in Talangerpark in the Altendorf district is located on historic, now listed city grounds. The first playground was built here in 1967 at the same time as the residential area. A new playground costing 315,000 euros has now been built on the plans of Chemnitz landscape architect Karl Wienke. Play facilities have been created for children aged 3 to 16. While the slide, swings, see-saws and trampolines are especially designed for younger children, a badminton court and a table tennis table round off the facilities for older children.
3 p.m.: Adventure playground on Scharnhorstplatz
For decades, Scharnhorstplatz - including the existing playground - led a shadowy existence in the Hilbersdorf neighbourhood. On Scharnhorstplatz, the funding programme offered the opportunity to invest 450,000 euros. The result is a piece of jewellery in the district and a magnet beyond. The entire square, including the surrounding paths, has been upgraded. Plantings were also revised and supplemented here in accordance with information from the heritage authority. Under the motto "Robin Hood", the new adventure playground is the centre of imaginative play for children between the ages of 3 and 12.
Background:
Between 2016 and 2018, six play and leisure facilities were built in our city with the help of funding from the "Bridges to the Future" programme.
The building department estimates the current investment in six playgrounds as part of the "Bridges to the Future" programme at 1.5 million euros. The city itself is contributing 410,000 euros of its own funds as co-financing.
