The Plant-for-the-Planet Academy is an extracurricular event in which pupils between the ages of 9 and 12 take part independently or as a school group to campaign for global climate justice and plant trees. The academy will take place on 27 October from 9 am to 5 pm at smac. The project is supported by the Staatliches Museum für Archäologie Chemnitz - smac, the Sächsische Hans-Carl-von-Carlowitz-Gesellschaft e.V., the City of Chemnitz and Café Schocken.
Plant-for-the-Planet is a student initiative that was launched in 2007. It has its origins in a class presentation by Felix, then aged 9, on the climate crisis. During his research, he came across the Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai from Kenya, who died in 2011 and planted 30 million trees in 30 years. At the end of the presentation, Felix had the idea that children could plant one million trees in every country in the world and thus fight together as a global family for a fair future.
