Pioneers of the building revolution come to Chemnitz

Series of events on "100 years of Frei Otto" continues

On Thursday, 30 May, the young "pioneers of the building revolution" will come to Chemnitz to focus on sustainable architecture at the workshop of the same name. The city of Chemnitz and the Garage Campus are celebrating the 100th birthday of Chemnitz-born architect Frei Otto with this series of events.

From 4 p.m., the Garage Campus invites you to visit and view the Baukulturgarage, followed by a workshop on glue-free timber construction and regional building materials. The participants will then head to the second venue, the Neue Sächsische Galerie in the TIETZ. The official welcome by the City of Chemnitz will begin at 7 pm, followed by presentations by pioneers of the Bauwende such as the Asphalt Kollektiv and Menu Surprise from Berlin and C/O NOW from Berlin. The event will conclude with a panel discussion.

No other architect gave building in the second half of the 20th century as much inspiration and impetus as Frei Otto. His pioneering spirit and his work were a source of inspiration for architects and engineers worldwide. He researched the fundamentals of resource-conserving and energy-efficient construction long before these topics became the focus of the general public. By involving users in the planning of buildings and taking climatic and local conditions into account, he broke new ground in the construction industry.

Frei Otto is one of those personalities who are not usually associated with their birthplace of Chemnitz and Saxony. The city is taking the 100th anniversary of his birth in the European Capital of Culture year as an opportunity to make this connection more visible - true to the Chemnitz Capital of Culture motto "C the unseen". Together with numerous partners and supporters, a multi-part, consecutive programme has been put together, consisting of events, workshops, exhibitions and networking formats.
