Pilot project: free parking in municipal car parks in the city centre ends tomorrow, Friday 2 October
The pilot scheme, which allowed free parking in municipal car parks in the city centre at weekends, will come to an end tomorrow, Friday, after six months. The model was particularly concerned with the question of how the offer of free parking on Friday evenings and at weekends affects the utilisation of municipal car parks.
The evaluation of the survey results is to be finalised in the next few weeks. The analysis will evaluate the response, firstly by taking measurements in the car parks and secondly by measuring pedestrian frequency. The results will then be incorporated into the parking space concept for the city centre commissioned by the city council.
The regulation applied from the Easter weekend up to and including 2 October. From 5 p.m. on Fridays, parking in the municipal car parks was free of charge at weekends. This meant that a total of 1,700 parking spaces were available free of charge from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening.
