On Monday 24 August at 10.30 am, Mayor Knut Kunze will open the exhibition of the Chemnitz paintings submitted to the ‘Mayors for Peace’ international painting competition in the exhibition hall at the Town Hall, Markt 1. The exhibition opening is open to the public, and anyone interested is welcome to attend.
Media representatives are also invited.
In 2025, ‘Mayors for Peace’ once again organised the international art competition on the theme ‘Peaceful Towns – What Peace Means to Me’. Children aged between 6 and 15 were invited to submit their own artwork and reflections on the theme.
From Chemnitz, 43 children from various schools took part with their creative entries. Ten-year-old Marius, a pupil at the Chemnitz partner school, won the ‘Mayors for Peace’ special prize (see press release 143). A total of 8,079 pictures were submitted from 153 cities in 19 countries worldwide, and 52 prize-winners were honoured.
The exhibition can be viewed from 24 August to 2 October 2026 during the town hall’s opening hours: Mondays to Thursdays from 8 am to 6 pm and Fridays from 8 am to 4 pm. No booking is required to visit the exhibition.
