A photovoltaic system is being installed on the roof of the municipal property eins-Stadion on Gellertstraße. Construction work began at the beginning of October. The subsequent use of photovoltaics was already envisaged when the stadium was planned and built in 2014.
The existing statics and roof construction offer the best conditions for an uncomplicated integration of the system. At the unshaded site, 1,620 PV modules with a total output of 745 kWp are to be installed. The electricity generated in this way will supply municipal properties such as schools, administrative buildings and fire stations within a radius of 4.5 kilometres using a balancing group model.
In addition to the aspect of sustainable electricity generation, the PV system also makes an important contribution to reducing the city of Chemnitz's operating costs. The electricity generated is cheaper than the market price and independent of any future fluctuations in the energy market.
The system costs around 820,000 euros, financed by allocations from the Municipal Energy and Climate Budget (KomEKG) of the Free State of Saxony.
Depending on the weather, the construction period is expected to last until December 2025.
