Photo exhibition "Glück Auf - Fascinating world of miners from then to now"

Exhibition opening at the public health department on 25 November 2016, 3 pm

A new exhibition of photographs on the subject of "Glück Auf - Faszinierende Welt der Bergleute von Damals bis Heute" (Good Luck - Fascinating World of Miners from Then to Now) will open next Friday, 25 November at 3 pm at the Chemnitz City Health Department (Am Rathaus 8, first floor).

Jana Fritzsche from Freiberg and Frank Stein, a trained miner from Gersdorf, have endeavoured to capture the historical changes in mining in the Ore Mountains in a photographic documentary. On display are over 40 photos on the subject of old mining techniques and craftsmanship, which have been taken over the past four years with the support of mining enthusiasts and various associations. Joint, strenuous and not entirely harmless discovery tours through the mining areas, with "mining enthusiasts" at their side, led to this photo documentation. Projects such as taking part in mining parades and creating the historical photo series serve on the one hand to preserve monuments and traditions and on the other hand to promote the touristic use of the visitor mines.

The exhibition will be opened by two miners in the original habit of the "Alte Hoffnung Erbstolln e.V. Schönborn/Rossau" and the Freundeskreis Geologie und Bergbau e.V. Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The exhibition will be on display from 25 November 2016 to 17 March 2017 in the health department on the first floor.
