Petra Pansch: "Charlottes Volkshaus"

On Thursday 29 February at 6 pm, author Petra Pansch will be reading from the second part of her biographical-historical novel "Charlottes Volkshaus" in the TIETZ event hall.

As a happy bride, Charlotte moves into the Volkshaus with Kurt. A short time later, the two marry and on 29 February, their daughter Ruth is born. What a coincidence, Charlotte and Ruth have their birthdays on the same day. The story continues in Zwickauer Straße and around the Kappler Drehe. Soon the colours of the colourful flags decorating the Volkshaus and the town change. Swastika flags must now fly. In 1933, henchmen's boots trampled through the Volkshaus. Many things change from one moment to the next and nothing is the way it used to be. The flourishing Chemnitz withers. The new era is characterised by National Socialist rule, fear of war and worries about daily survival.
Petra Pansch, a qualified journalist born in Chemnitz in 1952, worked first for German television in Berlin, then in the press office of the city of Karl-Marx-Stadt and later for the Sächsische Zeitung newspaper in Sebnitz until she left the country in 1984. After leaving the GDR, she worked for the German Press Agency, in the press department of the Koblenz Chamber of Crafts and wrote for various local newspapers in Rhineland-Palatinate. She now lives on the edge of the northern Eifel region, where she wrote her autobiography and biographical novels about her family.
