Peter Schettler's estate on display in the city archive
Reading room only open by appointment
From Monday 9 January, the estate of Chemnitz artist Peter Schettler will be on display in the reading room of the Chemnitz City Archive. It has been processed over the past few months and can now be viewed by anyone interested.
Peter Schettler was born on 30 April 1944 in Pleißa and was a student at the Dresden University of Fine Arts. In addition to his diverse artistic work, he was also a talented musician and scuba diver, including underwater photography. He died on 15 December 2021 at the age of 76.
In the last months of his life, Peter Schettler visited the Chemnitz City Archive so that the documentation of both his art production and his other activities could remain in the Chemnitz City Archive for eternity.
The estate includes not only preliminary studies and watercolours for the paintings, but also drawings and prints from which the paintings were created. These include Chemnitz landscapes, portraits and - a sign of the diversity of his personal interests - photographs taken with his self-made underwater camera.
The reading room of the city archive in the Aue 16 building is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm. Visits are only possible by appointment and after written confirmation. Bookings can be made by telephone on 0371 488 4702 or by email to stadtarchiv.benutzung(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
