Permanent exhibition "Towers - Towers - Tower Stories" in the High Tower of Chemnitz Town Hall
Opening on 24 July, 4 pm - registration possible until 19 July
On Monday, 24 July at 4 pm, interested parties are invited to the opening of the permanent exhibition "Towers - Towers - Tower Stories" in the High Tower of Chemnitz Town Hall.
The opening will take place in the city council chamber of the town hall. After welcoming the guests by Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, Dr Stefan Thiele from the Schloßbergmuseum will give a lecture on the High Tower and its history. Those interested can then climb the tower and view the restructured exhibition.
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited.

The exhibition, which has been jointly developed and redesigned by the Schloßbergmuseum Chemnitz and the Mayor's department, shows models of churches and the city as well as descriptions of the city's history - starting with the city's development from 1145 through the transformation of the city in the 20th century to the present day.
The models from the previous exhibition have been integrated into the new permanent exhibition. The exhibition has also been restructured.
Around the year 2000, Stefan Weber (1942 - 2015), who had held the office of Chemnitz tower keeper since 1991, put together an initial exhibition in the High Tower to commemorate important buildings and the history of tower keeping. Architectural models and photographs depicted the churches of St Nicholas, St Pauli, St Luke, the synagogue, the district and official headquarters and the Bismarck Tower. These are all buildings that no longer exist today or - like the castle church and St John's Church - were heavily altered in their appearance after 1945. In addition, there was the large city model, which impressively documents the development of Chemnitz city centre in the period around 1780 - before the onset of industrialisation. The models were created by the "Historical City Modelling" working group at Wetex GmbH during a job creation scheme.
The current exhibition also ends at a height of 35 metres and rewards visitors with a view over Chemnitz city centre, surrounded by a fantastic landscape and featuring many towers that still characterise the cityscape today.
