Pergolas in Schönau Park to be replaced

From 16 November, the pergolas* in Schönau Park will be replaced by new ones. The public green space in Schönau Park will be enhanced by pergolas entwined with roses. During inspections, the wooden structures from 1993 were found to be rotten, one section has already been removed and both sections are now being replaced with new ones.

The existing wooden structure will be demolished first. The post supports in the ground will be reused for the new construction.

The construction work should be largely completed by 4 December.

The company Zimmerei Lars Sünderhauf, Rosenberg 7a, 08538 Weischlitz, was commissioned with the work.

The total costs amount to approx. 27,000 euros.

* The term pergola comes from the Italian/Latin language and means a porch or extension. A pergola is a space-creating pillar or colonnade. Pergolas serve as a climbing aid, often also to emphasise and structure open spaces and parks.
