Peak weather - peak figures: Almost 80,000 bathers in the four municipal outdoor pools so far
"Klärchen" is laughing - and the employees of the swimming pool department at the city's sports office are at least as happy as the visitors to the municipal outdoor pools in Chemnitz: since the start of the season in May, the now exceptionally good swimming weather has attracted 78,961 bathers to the four municipal outdoor pools in Gablenz, Einsiedel, Wittgensdorf and Bernsdorf. Despite the rather mixed start to the season, visitor numbers have already more than doubled compared to the same period last year (35,995 as at 31 July 2012). Last weekend alone, 14,468 "water rats" sought and found refreshment in the four outdoor pools in temperatures of around 34 degrees Celsius.
The Rabenstein reservoir, operated by Eissport- und Freizeit GmbH, also recorded record figures: 62,319 guests have been welcomed here so far in the 2013 season. In 2012, a total of 75,000 visitors were counted - 34,000 of these came to the reservoir by July 2012, while in July 2013 alone there were already 46,000 visitors.
In the current season, the following impressive visitor figures have been recorded in the four municipal outdoor pools in the city of Chemnitz - for comparison, the pool department has researched the visitor figures for the previous years 2012 and 2011.

The sports office was able to cope with the rush last weekend with a corresponding number of staff: Twelve lifeguards, nine lifeguards and the same number of pool assistants/cashiers were on duty every day. The Gablenz pool was the most popular, followed by Bernsdorf and Wittgensdorf. A total of 75 employees ensure swimming fun in all outdoor pools. Seasonal staff, including lifeguards, pool assistants and cashiers, are employed in addition to the municipal staff. Their tasks range from supervising the pools and ensuring safety and hygiene to mowing the lawn, caring for plants, cleaning and checking the water quality.
