Peace Day exhibition opens
Photo project "No war in my name" takes part in Peace Day - exhibition from 23 February to 8 March at the Roter Turm Gallery
Around 600 women have now taken part in the photo project "No war in my name", initiated by Chemnitz photographer Karla Mohr. Their statements in favour of peace will also play a role in the Chemnitz Peace Day. An exhibition will be on show at the Roter Turm gallery from 23 February to 8 March. The messages will be displayed on 40 panels in the Nikolaipassage and Johannispassage. "We are not the new generation of rubble women", "Imagine there is a war and nobody goes!", "Make love, not war" or "Be the change you want to see in the world" are just some of the touching sentences that are intended to inspire reflection.
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig describes the campaign as a benefit for Peace Day:
"A small idea has grown into a major project that has met with a surprisingly positive response in the city, but has also sparked many a discussion. More than 600 women took part and took a clear stand: in favour of peace, tolerance and humanity. A message that fits in with the Chemnitz Peace Day. I'm looking forward to the campaign, which has so far been limited to the internet, going public and being on display in Chemnitz at the beginning of March."
In addition to the exhibition, the photos will be displayed on large billboards, mega lights and city lights to draw attention to Peace Day on 5 March.
On 5 March, Chemnitz Peace Day commemorates the bombing of the city 70 years ago and all the victims of the Second World War. Every year, thousands of people from Chemnitz stand up for peace, democracy and against right-wing extremism and hatred. Further information on the Chemnitz Peace Day programme will be presented tomorrow at the City of Chemnitz press conference.
The photo project was initiated by Chemnitz photographer Karla Mohr. Since September 2014, she has photographed around 600 women with a peace statement. The exhibition was financed and conceptually realised by the Communication, Marketing and Policy Department of the City of Chemnitz. The exhibition was supported by the Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Chemnitz.
In the "No war in my name" project, around 600 women from Chemnitz and the surrounding area have so far been photographed with a commitment to peace. The photos can be seen on the internet, for example on Facebook.
In an interview as part of the city marketing campaign, Karla Mohr reports that she herself is surprised by the success of the campaign: "It has taken on an incredible momentum of its own.
