Peace banner at Chemnitz town hall

From Friday morning, 3 March, colourful peace banners on the façade of Chemnitz Town Hall will once again advertise the Chemnitz Peace Day on 5 March. Gerald Richter, initiator of the XXL Peace Gallery, will be available to answer questions on Friday at 11 a.m. in front of the town hall.

These were designed by pupils who took part in the art project initiated by Aktion ©. "Once again, Chemnitz schools have designed sculptures and seven-metre-long banners in workshops for Peace Day," reports Gerald Richter from Aktion ©. This year, a group from the twin city of Ústí nad Labem and pupils from Dresden also took part.

On 5 March, Chemnitz Peace Day commemorates the bombing of the city 72 years ago and all the victims of the Second World War. Every year, thousands of people from Chemnitz stand up for peace, democracy and against right-wing extremism and xenophobia.
