Peace banner at Chemnitz town hall

From next Friday morning, 2 March, colourful peace banners will once again advertise the Chemnitz Peace Day on 5 March on the façade of Chemnitz Town Hall. Gerald Richter, initiator of the XXL Peace Gallery, will be available to answer questions on Friday at 11 a.m. in front of the town hall. At this time, the caretakers of the town hall will be seen putting the finishing touches to the work.
The 25 new, seven-metre-long banners were designed by pupils who took part in the art project initiated by Aktion ©. "A group of young people from the twin town of Ústí nad Labem once again took part in the annual workshop at the Montessori school. For the first time, a second workshop was organised by Aktion © as part of SEBIT 2017 on the topic of colonialism at the secondary school in Niederwiesa," reports Gerald Richter from the citizens' initiative. "We wanted to show that our project can be realised in practically any school."
An exhibition of the city of Chemnitz provides information about the art project on 24 large panels, which has been on display in the Nikolaipassage of the Galerie Roter Turm since 23 February.
On 5 March, Chemnitz Peace Day commemorates the bombing of the city 73 years ago and all the victims of the Second World War. Every year, thousands of people from Chemnitz stand up for peace, democracy and against right-wing extremism and xenophobia.
