Pay parking fees digitally with your mobile phone
Parking in Chemnitz is now even easier. From today, drivers can also pay their parking fees by mobile phone. To this end, the city is cooperating with smartparking, an initiative for digital car park management. As in other German cities, all public car parks managed by the city offer the option of "mobile phone parking" in addition to conventional parking machines.
The parking fee can be paid by phone either via an app, by text message or by phone call. The parking time can be stopped or extended as required. This eliminates overpayment and parking fines for expired tickets. For this convenience, the providers charge different surcharges on top of the municipal parking fee. In the coming days, information about mobile phone parking service providers and their instructions on how to get started with mobile phone parking will be displayed on conventional parking machines.
The apps of the following providers are currently available for mobile phone parking: "EasyPark", "ParkNow", "Park and Joy", "moBiLET", "Yellowbrick/flowbird". Soon to be added are "paybyphone" and "Parkster".
The employees of the public order office can recognise whether a car has a digital ticket by the number plate, which they compare with a central online system.
Below are the locations of the public car parks managed by the City of Chemnitz for which mobile phone parking will be offered this week: An der Markthalle/Am alten Bad, Brückenstraße area, Carolastraße, Getreidemarkt/Lohstraße Hauptbahnhof, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße/Opernhaus, Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße, Moritzstraße/Reitbahnstraße, Mühlenstraße/Stadtbad, Straße der Nationen, Waisenstraße, Wiesenstraße/TIETZ, Am Walkgraben, Augustusburger Straße, Fabrikstraße/Hartmannstraße, Jägerstraße, Johanniskirche, Mühlenstraße/Georgstraße, Nicolaimühlgäßchen. The Theaterstraße/Pfortensteg car park will also be added once the construction work has been completed.
