Pavement renewal on Zwickauer Straße
City-facing carriageway between Goethestraße and Reichsstraße is being renovated
From Wednesday, 19 June, construction work will begin on Zwickauer Straße between Goethestraße and Reichsstraße, including the Goethestraße and Reichstraße junctions, to renew the city-bound carriageway. This is being renovated in four successive construction phases over a length of approx. 600 metres on behalf of the City of Chemnitz Traffic and Civil Engineering Department. Specifically, the asphalt binder and asphalt surface course will be replaced.
During the construction period, motorised private traffic will be diverted past the construction site in at least one lane. Overall, the work should be completed by 16 August 2024.
In the first three weeks, the left-hand lane along the tracks will be renewed up to the level of the vehicle museum. During this time, the Barbarossastrasse track crossing will not be possible. Ahornstraße - Ulmenstraße - Zwickauer Straße and Zwickauer Straße - Reichstraße are available as diversions.
Subsequently, restrictions must be expected at the Zwickauer Straße/Reichstraße junction. The Reichsstraße track crossing will then not be possible. Theaterstraße - Hartmannstraße must then be used as a diversion route or the Barbarossastraße crossing will be possible again.
The work is expected to shift to the right-hand lane from 17 July. During this time, daily access routes will be set up to the Stop and Go garage, the Subway, the vehicle museum and the furniture shop. Residents are asked to pay attention to the daily updated signage.
The traffic and civil engineering office is investing a total of 688,000 euros of its own funds. The work will be carried out by the company Eurovia Verkehrsbau GmbH from Markranstädt following a public tender.
