Paternoster in the town hall back in operation

On Monday, 19 November at 4 pm, the paternoster in the town hall will be ceremonially put into operation by Michael Stötzer, Mayor of Construction. Media representatives are cordially invited to attend.
The "maiden voyage" will be performed by the two main supporters of this project, the former Lord Mayor of Chemnitz, Eberhard Langer, and the Chemnitz City Councillor, Dr Dieter Füsslein.
The passenger lift ("paternoster") built in 1911 with the New Town Hall was completely overhauled in 1982 after more than 70 years and decommissioned in 2009 following a risk assessment.
In 2013, the city council decided to put the paternoster in the New Town Hall back into operation. The City of Chemnitz then began to examine what conditions were needed to be able to put the paternoster back into operation.
The results of the review were revised in 2016 on the basis of new findings and possible solutions so that it could be put back into operation. The corresponding construction decision was made by the city council in August 2017 with budgeted costs of approx. 220,000 euros.
The implementation planning was completed by December 2017 and the tender documents by February 2018 so that construction could begin in spring 2018.
In detail, lift cars and car guides were refurbished, safety elements, side panelling and portals were installed. Drywall construction including painting work was carried out. New doors and steel and glass constructions were installed. A new control and braking system, lighting and an alarm system were installed. In addition, flooring and stonemasonry work was carried out. Finally, safety instructions were signposted.
The inspection by the approved monitoring body in accordance with the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health took place on 2 November 2018 and the operating permit was issued.
A total of nine specialist companies were involved in the construction project (the largest contract was for the conveyor technology), as well as specialist planners, experts and authorised experts from the monitoring body.
