Parks department on site with pupils: foray through the forest and tree of the year planted
Girls and boys who take part in the "All-day nature conservation programme" at Auerwald primary school went on a 90-minute foray through Sechsruthenwald (Glösa) as announced by the city's green spaces department in the spring (PM 197 from 19.04.2013), they went on a 90-minute foray through the Sechsruthenwald forest (Glösa) and used this opportunity to collect non-rotting waste from the forest. The amount of rubbish collected filled three large rubbish bags to the brim, and the Parks Department therefore once again asks all visitors to the forest not to throw away drinks bottles and cans and/or food packaging material in the forest, but to dispose of them properly after visiting the forest.
Children from Year 4 at Harthau primary school have planted several wild apple trees in the Johanneum Forest - the "Tree of the Year" 2013. The wild apple is one of the rarest tree species in the forest. Its existence is highly endangered and it usually stands inconspicuously in the forest or at the edge of the forest. According to current knowledge, the cultivated apple is not descended from the European wild apple, but from Asian wild apples - further information can be found online at www.baum-des-jahres.de.
The children were accompanied on both dates by staff from the forestry department of the city's green spaces office.Outlook: On 28 and 29 May 2013, 200 children will once again come together in Zeisigwald (Forststraße playground) for this year's Forest Youth Games.
