From Monday, 27 October, the park path at the entrance to the city park, which connects to the intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 at the railway viaduct, will be renovated. The path will be fully closed during the construction work, which is expected to last until the end of November. Pedestrians and cyclists will be diverted via Beckerstrasse.
Over a length of around 410 metres, worn surface and base layers of the park path will be removed and completely rebuilt. The danger spot at a shaft structure for the district heating supply will be removed in the process. A water-bound surface layer will form the path surface so that no surface is sealed. The clearance profile of the path, which is also used as a cycle path, will be cleared. The trees along the edge of the path will be protected by tree guards and no felling will be necessary.
The construction site will be served from Beckerstrasse/Treffurthstrasse. To this end, two bollards will be temporarily removed at the entrance to the city park and the path to the construction site will be temporarily widened by approx. one metre.
The aim of the measure is to conveniently and safely connect the intervention area at the railway viaduct as the entrance to the city park with the city park. The costs amount to around 105,000 euros.
The contractor is Steinbach & Richter GbR from Lichtenau, while Krüger Landschaftsarchitekten from Dresden is responsible for planning and construction supervision.
