Parents in Chemnitz can apply for childcare allowance in the customer portal for social benefits
Childcare allowance law comes into force on 1 August - application form and information sheet are also available online at www.chemnitz.de
On 1 August 2013, the Childcare Allowance Act integrated into the Federal Parental Allowance and Parental Leave Act (BEEG), which applies to births from 1 August 2012, comes into force. In Saxony, the local authorities are responsible for implementing the Childcare Allowance Act. In Chemnitz, parents can apply for childcare allowance at the city's customer portal for financial social benefits on the ground floor of the Moritzhof Citizens' and Administration Centre.
Childcare allowance - who is entitled to this social benefit? - You are entitled to childcare allowance if you are resident or ordinarily resident in Germany, live in a household with your child, look after and bring up the child yourself and do not make use of state early childhood support in a childcare centre or daycare facility. The employment of the applying parent does not have to be limited to a certain amount of time.
Until 31 July 2014, the childcare allowance will be paid in the amount of 100 euros per month and from 1 August 2014 in the amount of 150 euros. It can be received from the 15th to the 36th month of the child's life and thus follows on from the fourteen-month reference period for parental allowance. Parents can receive it even before the child is 15 months old if they have used up the total parental allowance to which they are entitled, e.g. by drawing it at the same time and therefore for a shorter period. Childcare allowance is paid for a maximum of 22 months for each child. There is no minimum period of entitlement to childcare allowance. Only one parent can receive childcare allowance for each month of the child's life. The months for which the childcare allowance is to be paid must be stated in the application for childcare allowance.
The childcare allowance is granted regardless of income, but is offset in full against benefits in accordance with SGB II (unemployment benefit II) and SGB XII (e.g. basic income support in the event of reduced earning capacity) and the supplementary child allowance in accordance with § 6a of the Federal Child Benefit Act.
