Over 400 participants at the book summer in the city library
Successful conclusion to the summer holiday reading campaign
The interest in current literature among 11 to 16-year-olds is unbroken. The city library can also confirm this after the past book summer. A total of 400 participants took part in the summer holiday reading campaign and borrowed 1641 books in eight weeks.
This year, the young people were particularly engaged with what they had read. For the first time, they were also able to earn their stamps for the reading logbook with reviews, drawings, handicrafts or audio files. At least three stamps were required to receive a certificate and an invitation to the Book Summer closing party.
Instead of the party that traditionally ends the campaign, this year there will be a live stream with a DJ, quiz and raffle for participants on Friday, 18 September at 3.30 pm. The Book Summer certificate is honoured by German teachers at many schools - a good basis for the start of the new school year.
The Book Summer Saxony is a reading promotion initiative for young people organised by public libraries in Saxony and the Saxony State Association of the German Library Association in cooperation with the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism, supported by the Chemnitz City Library Supporters Association. The Book Summer is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
