On Thursday, 21 May at 10 a.m., Mayor Knut Kunze and the head of the fire service, René Kraus, will present the programme for the celebrations to mark the 160th anniversary of the Chemnitz professional fire service at Fire and Rescue Station II, Wilhelm-Weber-Straße 15, and look back on the history of the fire service in Chemnitz.
The anniversary will be celebrated on Saturday, 30 May, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an open day at Fire and Rescue Station 2.

The first professional fire brigade was founded in Chemnitz on 10 October 1866. The reason for this was the industrial growth and modernisation of the city. Fire protection was initially provided by twelve paid firefighters. Today, according to the fire protection requirements plan, 44 positions are manned around the clock by men and women in three fire and rescue stations working 24-hour shifts.
