Outdoor pool season is extended
The outdoor pools in Wittgensdorf and Einsiedel are also awaiting bathers until 31 August
The summer is still here with sunshine and, for the most part, swimming weather, but we are still slowly approaching September and the end of the season in Chemnitz's outdoor pools. So it's time for a brief interim review and outlook: In August, the number of visitors to the city's outdoor pools fell far short of expectations due to the often unfavourable weather for bathers. With currently around 69,500 visitors, the 2014 outdoor pool season is currently looking rather moderate. Nevertheless, the swimming pool department of the Sports Office is (also) hoping for better swimming weather in the meantime and is therefore announcing good news for bathers today: The Sports Office is extending the outdoor pool season at the Wittgensdorf and Einsiedel outdoor pools - here are the operating times:
Gablenz outdoor pool: open as planned until Sunday, 7 September.
Bernsdorf outdoor pool: open as planned until Sunday, 31 August.
Wittgensdorf outdoor pool: extension of the season until Sunday, 31 August.
Einsiedel outdoor pool: season extended until 31 August.
Opening hours of the town's outdoor pools: during the school holidays (until 31 August) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., after the school holidays (from 1 September) daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Preview: If the good weather continues, individual outdoor pools (with the exception of the Gablenz outdoor pool, which is scheduled to be open until 7 September) may remain open beyond 31 August. Depending on the weather, a decision will be made by the swimming pool department of the sports office in the last week of August - the press office will provide information on this in a press release.

The Oberrabenstein reservoir of Eissport und Freizeit GmbH Chemnitz is once again a special attraction for bathers this season: 53,000 bathers have been counted so far in the current bathing season. The natural lake in an idyllic location is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from this Friday (15 August), from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from September and as usual until mid-October.
