"Our Russian years"
Book reading by Simone Trieder and discussion with contemporary witness Gisela Franke from Chemnitz - on 2 September, 7 p.m., at TIETZ, VHS course room 4.07
On Monday, 2 September at 7 pm - one day after World Peace Day - author Simone Trieder will read from her book "Unsere russischen Jahre" (Our Russian Years) at the adult education centre and talk to 94-year-old Gisela Franke from Chemnitz.
Gisela Franke belongs to one of the families who were deported to the Soviet Union by the Soviet military in a secret operation in October 1946. The fathers of the so-called "specialist families" were engineers and technicians in the aircraft and machine industry - a living reparation from the Soviet occupation zone for an unknown period of time.
In her book "Our Russian Years", published in 2018, author Simone Trieder tells the stories and fates of these people, based on her own mother's diary. With additional voices of contemporary witnesses, a kaleidoscope of the five to eight years in Russia is created, which were experienced very differently by the children of the deported specialists. In this way, a hitherto almost forgotten chapter of post-war history is illuminated in detail.
Anyone interested is invited to this special encounter.
Admission is free.
