Lord Mayor Sven Schulze appeals to people to vote
"Dear people of Chemnitz,
This Sunday we are facing important elections - the European elections and the local elections. As your Lord Mayor, I would like to appeal to you all today to make use of your right to vote and take part in these important votes.
The local elections affect us all directly. This is where we decide on the future of our city, our immediate living environment. The elected representatives on the city council will have a significant influence on how our everyday lives are organised - be it in matters of education, public safety, infrastructure or social cohesion.
Our democracy thrives on participation. Every vote counts and helps us to set the course for a future worth living together. It is your right and your responsibility to help determine the course our city will take in the coming years by casting your vote.
We live in a time in which democratic values and institutions are unfortunately all too often called into question. That is why it is more important than ever to actively defend and strengthen these values. Your vote is a powerful signal in favour of a vibrant democracy.
I would like to encourage you: Go and vote! Find out about the candidates, their programmes and the ideas they have for our city. Think about who can best represent your interests and the needs of our community.
Voting is not only a right, but also an opportunity. A chance to influence and actively shape our city. Let's show together that we care about the future of our city. Let us show that we are a committed and responsible citizenry.
