Opening one-way streets for cycle traffic in the opposite direction
The city of Chemnitz intends to open further roads, this time in the urban areas of Schloßchemnitz, Borna, Wittgensdorf and Ebersdorf, to cycle traffic travelling in the opposite direction. This concerns roads for which a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h applies. This will implement one of the measures of the cycle traffic concept. By opening up one-way streets where the local situation and traffic regulations permit, some unnecessary detours for cyclists will be eliminated and the cycle path network extended.

This means that cyclists are permitted to cycle in both directions on the one-way streets that have been cleared for cycle traffic by means of additional signage.

One-way streets as part of a 30 km/h zone
When passing a one-way street that is open to cyclists travelling in the opposite direction, the principle that the cyclist coming from the right has the right of way remains unaffected. This also applies to outgoing cycle traffic.
If a one-way road leads into a priority road for cyclists travelling in the opposite direction, the sign "Give way!" is displayed for cyclists leaving the one-way road.
All road users must pay a high level of attention. In one-way streets, cyclists must adjust their speed accordingly when encountering traffic, ride as far to the right as possible and stop if necessary.
The signage will be gradually adapted from next week.
