Opening one-way streets for cycle traffic in the opposite direction
The city of Chemnitz intends to open up further one-way streets, this time in the Kaßberg and Altendorf districts, to cycle traffic travelling in the opposite direction. This concerns one-way streets for which a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h applies.
One of the measures of the cycling concept is thus being implemented. By opening up one-way streets where the local situation and traffic regulations permit, unnecessary detours for cyclists will be eliminated and the cycle path network expanded.

This means that cyclists are permitted to cycle in both directions on the one-way streets that are open to cyclists by means of additional signage.

One-way street as part of a 30 km/h zone:
When passing a one-way street that is open to cyclists travelling in the opposite direction, the principle that the cyclist coming from the right has right of way remains unaffected. This also applies to outgoing cycle traffic.
One-way street with a speed limit of 30 km/h:
If a one-way street for cyclists travelling in the opposite direction leads into a priority road, the sign "Give way!" is displayed for cyclists exiting the one-way street
All road users must pay a high degree of attention. In one-way streets, speed must be adjusted accordingly in the case of two-way traffic, and cyclists must keep as far to the right as possible and stop if necessary.
The signage will be gradually adapted from the 36th calendar week.
