Opening one-way streets for cycle traffic in the opposite direction
The city of Chemnitz intends to open selected one-way streets in the city area to cycle traffic travelling in the opposite direction. This applies to roads with a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h. This will implement one of the measures of the cycle traffic concept. By opening up one-way streets where the local situation and traffic regulations permit, some unnecessary detours for cyclists will be eliminated and the cycle path network expanded. Implementation is currently underway in the Sonnenberg district.
Please pay attention to the following signage:
This means that cyclists are permitted to cycle in both directions on one-way streets that have been cleared for cycle traffic by means of additional signage.
The following traffic regulations must be observed:
One-way streets as part of a 30 km/h zone:
When passing a one-way street that is open to cyclists travelling in the opposite direction, the principle that the cyclist coming from the right has the right of way remains unaffected. This also applies to outgoing cycle traffic.
One-way street with a speed limit of 30 km/h:
If a one-way road for cyclists travelling in the opposite direction leads into a priority road, the sign "Give way!" is displayed for cyclists leaving the one-way road.
All road users must pay a high degree of attention. In one-way streets, speed must be adjusted accordingly in the case of two-way traffic, and cyclists must keep as far to the right as possible and stop if necessary.
The signage is currently being adapted and the following one-way streets are to be opened to cycle traffic by 11 September:
