Opening of the sports boarding school at the Sportforum on 9 April

Invitation to the press tour on 9 April, 2 p.m.

On Monday, 9 April, the boarding school at the Sportgymnasium in the Sportforum will be inaugurated.
Mayor Sven Schulze will officially hand over the keys to the current head of the boarding school, Gerlinde Heber, at 3.00 pm.

Media representatives are already invited to a press tour at 2 pm. The meeting point is at the main entrance to the boarding school.

The former "Haus des Sports" in the Sportforum on Reichenhainer Straße has been converted into a boarding school for sports students at a cost of more than 7 million euros. Around 4.3 million euros of the project budget was financed by the local authority itself, with 2.8 million euros in funding from the state.

The remodelled and extended building now has 182 modern boarding places. This has improved both the living conditions and leisure facilities for around 175 boys and girls aged 9 to 18.

Four-person residential units have been created on all four floors and on the ground floor, in which two residents share a room and the four of them now have a shared bathroom and toilet. There are two small kitchens and two communal rooms on each floor.

"With the complete refurbishment, we are creating the best possible conditions for our young athletes. This will enable Chemnitz to maintain its reputation as a city of sport in the future," says Mayor Sven Schulze.
