Press invitation: 6 December, 9.30 a.m., Rosenplatz on Bernsdorfer Straße

On Friday, 6 December at 9.30 a.m., Mayor Michael Stötzer will open the new play and leisure facility on Rosenplatz. Children from neighbouring day-care centres are also invited to attend the opening ceremony. The mayor will give the young playground testers a small bird feeder for their daycare centre as a thank-you gift.
The socio-cultural centre "Querbeet" will provide biscuits and children's punch.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event.

The public green space Rosenplatz on Bernsdorfer Straße has been redesigned over the past five months. The square was one of the last historic town squares that had not been renovated since 1989. The old play area was demolished and replaced by a new one in the area of the square's central clearing.

The centrepiece of the redesigned area is a new playground with three play areas. The play theme is "Garden of the Rose" with motifs from "The Little Prince". The services for the design and organisation of the play equipment were determined in advance through a competition and awarded to Zimmer. Obst GmbH. Sollacher Spielplatzmontage GmbH installed the playground equipment. They are mainly made of oak wood. The metal parts are made of stainless steel. A large play area with equipment combinations and fall protection gravel and a toddler play area with play sand were created. The area was also equipped with a nest swing with a seamless fall protection surface made of rubber granulate, which enables barrier-free use.

The unsealed (water-bound path surface) paths on Rosenplatz were reconstructed with natural stone edging. The existing woodland was preserved as far as possible. No trees had to be felled. Only in some areas of the existing path edges was it necessary to cut back or grub up shrubs in order to restore the original path widths. 20 new shrubs were planted and the lawns along the newly created path edges were restored.

Eight refurbished benches and four new litter bins were installed in the square after the
were installed in the square after the construction work was completed.

The new green area was planned by the Chemnitz-based company C&E Consulting und Engineering GmbH, which was also commissioned to supervise the construction work. The landscaping work was carried out by Schmidt-Bau from Augustusburg.

The total costs for planning, construction and planting services as well as the manufacture and installation of the play equipment totalled around 430,000 euros. The project is located in the Urban Regeneration East development area and is two-thirds subsidised by urban development funds from the federal government and the Free State of Saxony.
