Opening of the remodelled traffic junction on the Kaßberg
New traffic regulations for drivers and pedestrians will apply there from tomorrow
Tomorrow, traffic will be reopened at the Waldenburger Straße/ Kochstraße/ Bodelschwinghstraße junction after the Weststraße/ Kochstraße junction has already been remodelled.
The civil engineering department had commissioned the redesign of the Waldenburger Straße/ Kochstraße/ Bodelschwinghstraße junction as this offset traffic area no longer met the requirements of a safe traffic facility. Among other things, the previous road situation there led to buses getting in each other's way.
The reorganisation of the junction not only improves traffic flow, but also traffic and school route safety. There had been frequent accidents at Waldenburger Straße/ Kochstraße/ Bodelschwinghstraße.
The construction costs for the remodelling project amount to approx. 130,000 euros. The project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony to the tune of 75 percent as part of the municipal road and bridge construction programme. The town had commissioned the company VSTR from Rodewisch to carry out the reconstruction.
What will change?
New right-of-way regulations
After the opening to traffic, the right-of-way regulations will change in the entire neighbourhood. The Weststraße/ Kochstraße/ Waldenburger Straße road will be designated as a priority road in accordance with the town's traffic development plan.
30 km/h zone
Schiersandstraße, Bodelschwinghstraße and Gustav-Adolf-Straße were already integrated into the neighbouring 30 km/h zone a few days ago on the basis of a decision by the city council's planning, construction and environment committee and the right of way at the junctions concerned was changed to right before left. Danger signs at all junction entrances inform drivers of the changed right of way.
Accident blackspot defused
This traffic law measure is also intended to defuse the second accident black spot on Bodelschwinghstraße/Gustav-Adolf-Straße.
Parking now possible on the right-hand edge of the carriageway
Changes have also been made to stationary traffic. On Bodelschwinghstraße, parking on the northern pavement (parking side) is no longer permitted. By displacing through traffic onto Weststrasse, parking is now possible on the right-hand edge of the carriageway, as in the entire area.
Parking is now possible on Schiersandstraße after the entrance to the Richter garden centre, as the general parking ban has been lifted. These parking spaces serve, among other things, as a replacement for the parking spaces no longer available on Weststraße.
Safety for pedestrians
A central island has been installed on Waldenburger Straße after Kochstraße. This is intended to ensure the safety of pedestrians and especially children on their way to school. In addition, the cross-section of the carriageway on the northern approach to Kochstraße has been narrowed and fitted with kerbs.
Caution is advised
The traffic authority is asking pedestrians and drivers to pay increased attention in connection with these new regulations and changes.
In order to clarify the new traffic routing, a one-way street will be set up on Bodelschwinghstraße between Gustav-Adolf-Straße and Schiersandstraße for a limited period, which will be cancelled again after a familiarisation phase.
