Opening of the NUMICO model route

The NUMICO model route will be officially opened by the project partners on Friday, 30 April at 12 noon. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
The meeting point is the footpath and cycle path between Reichenhainer Straße/Eislebener Straße, on the corner of Südring. Representatives of the City of Chemnitz and Chemnitz University of Technology will be available to answer questions.
Start of the one-year field phase of NUMIC
The field phase of the NUMIC research project begins on 30 April 2021 with the official opening of the NUMICO model route. The joint project "NUMIC - New Urban Mobility Awareness in Chemnitz" brings together project partners from science and administration and aims to make a difference together with the people of Chemnitz.
The six-kilometre route from Zeisigwald to the Sportforum will serve as a real-life laboratory for the research team for a year.
The "General Psychology and Work Psychology" research group and the Chair of Work Science and Innovation Management at Chemnitz University of Technology hope to gain new insights into the influence of infrastructure on mobility behaviour over the course of the one-year field phase. Together with the people of Chemnitz, the local conditions and challenges for sustainable mobility awareness will be tested.
To this end, the route is being upgraded: a new footpath and cycle path from Eislebener Straße to Reichenhainer Straße, integration into the cycle path signposting and easier crossing for pedestrians are already visible:inside at the Augustusburger Straße traffic lights, benches in NUMIC colours and a cycle service station on Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße. Further measures and the design of three potential areas are being planned.
NUMIC app available for download
From May, Chemnitz residents will also be able to take part in mobility research using the NUMIC app from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering.
The NUMIC app enables the recording of routes and location reports for pedestrian and cycle traffic. The researchers hope that this will give them a more precise insight into the mobility behaviour of people in Chemnitz and further approaches to improving cycling and walking. From May, the app called "NUMIC" will be available for Android systems and can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play Store:

The NUMIC project partners City of Chemnitz, TU Chemnitz, TU Dresden, Fraunhofer IAO and Innosabi GmbH are jointly pursuing a co-creative approach with citizens.
Online and along the route, there will continue to be various opportunities for all interested parties to get involved. The numic.city project's participation platform summarises the current opportunities for participation and information. The online community is already helping to determine which route through Chemnitz will be used to investigate sustainable mobility concepts and where initial upgrades are to be implemented.
The project is being funded with around 2 million euros by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
