Opening of the exhibition "From the studio to the spotlight"
Homage to the Chemnitz artist and actor Günter Naumann
On 19 November 2015 at 6 pm, the Kulturbetrieb der Stadt Chemnitz, the Städtische Theater gGmbH and the Chemnitzer Künstlerbund e. V. invite you to the opening of the exhibition "Vom Atelier ins Rampenlicht" on the occasion of the 90th birthday of actor Günter Naumann. The exhibition will open in the foyer of the theatre at Zieschestraße 28. Admission is free. The exhibition can be seen from 19 November 2015 to 18 January 2016 to accompany the regular performances.
The actor Günter Naumann was born in Chemnitz. He would have been 90 years old on 17 November 2015. Günter Naumann is known to a wide audience for his characterful roles in the theatre and in numerous DEFA and television films. He played the chief in the popular TV series "Zur See" and shone in his roles as TV commissioner Beck in "Polizeiruf 110".
Less well known are his artistic and creative work and his passion for painting and architecture. The exhibition in the small gallery in the Chemnitz theatre sheds light on this side of Naumann.
Günter Naumann was already intensively involved in painting and graphic art during his time as a prisoner of war in England. After his release, he studied painting privately in Chemnitz. He then worked as a draughtsman for the city council and as a site manager during the reconstruction of the opera house in his home town. Günter Naumann then studied acting in Chemnitz and Leipzig and was engaged at the Städtische Bühnen Karl-Marx-Stadt and later at the Berliner Ensemble.
During his time in Chemnitz and Berlin and while travelling, he produced numerous paintings, drawings and sketches. They show people, landscapes, still lifes and cityscapes.
The exhibition project in honour of the actor was initiated by his daughter Sabine Naumann, who is herself a visual artist.
