Opening of the art installation "Distrikt Chemnitz" by Florian Huber at the Karl Marx Monument

Next Monday, 31 July, at 6 pm, the art installation "Distrikt Chemnitz" by Hamburg artist Florian Huber will be opened at the Karl Marx Monument. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event. In addition to the artist Florian Huber, Daniel Schneider from the organisation KulturTragWerk Sachsen e. V. and Ines Vorsatz from the coordination office "Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz" at the City of Chemnitz will also be present.
The art installation is part of the IBUG in Chemnitz. It is sponsored by KulturTragwerk Sachsen e.V., which aims to make a contribution to the topic of participation/exclusion with this installation. The project is supported by the City of Chemnitz as part of the federal programme "Demokratie Leben" with a total of 6,000 euros and financed by donations and personal contributions.
Florian Huber was born in Trier in 1985 and completed his training as a forester and his studies as a social pedagogue in Darmstadt. The artist has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2014. He is a founding member of the cultural association dasblumen e.V. and curator of xpon-art.
Inclusion and exclusion are central themes in Florian Huber's work. The self-taught artist often uses building fences and/or barbed wire as basic materials for his installations and objects and alienates their function and effect. His works can be seen at various venues both nationally and internationally (e.g. at the A4 Contemporary Arts Centre in Chengdu/China).
In Chemnitz, he explores the theme of exclusion through individually customisable cell-like spaces. These form an unfinished unit in the sculpture "Distrikt". As a border symbol as well as a concrete border, the construction fence appears for people from the most diverse cultures, times and life situations in the most diverse contexts and meanings.
The artwork is not a self-contained system; it is an invitation to communicate, organise space and creatively engage with the theme. The space at the Marx Monument was chosen as the central location for this.
