Opening of the 2020 fountain season

Start with the fountain in the castle pond and the water feature on Jakobikirchplatz

The city's fountain season opens on Maundy Thursday, 9 April, with the water fountain in the castle pond and the water feature on Jakobikirchplatz. Both will be put into operation from 9 am. From 17 April until 4 June 2020, the 20 fountains in the Chemnitz city area will then gradually start to bubble. These are in detail:

  • Völkerfreundschaft fountain (Straße der Nationen)
  • Umbrella fountain (Street of Nations)
  • Children's fountain (Street of Nations)
  • Wedding fountain at the IHK building (Straße der Nationen)
  • Fountain Am Roten Turm (Stadthallenpark)
  • Rosenhof fountain (in front of the tower block)
  • Fountain Brühl-Boulevard
  • Park of Youth (Schlossbergpark)
  • Illuminated fountain (castle pond)
  • Castle pond fountain (castle pond)
  • Sachsenhalle water basin (Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße)
  • Ginkgo fountain basin (Rosenhof)
  • Hair washing" fountain in Albertipark/Sonnenberg
  • Jakobikirchplatz water feature
  • Zipper fountain (Schlossteichinsel)
  • Azzano fountain (Am Rathaus street, next to Kaufhof building)
  • Grüna fountain (Hexenberg)
  • Fountain at the market hall (Seeberplatz)
  • Saxonia (Johannisplatz)
  • Ball fountain - Röhrsdorf

90,000 has been set aside in the municipal budget for the 2020 financial year to maintain the fountains. In addition, companies and associations sponsor contributions in kind and in cash for the maintenance and management of the fountains. 14 of the fountains mentioned are managed by the supplier eins energie on the basis of a service contract.

The Klapperbrunnen fountain at the bus station was dismantled for restoration work in February and restored by the artist Erik Neukirchner. However, the restoration of the fountain by the artist is only part of the project. A fountain chamber (surround), the technical equipment for operating the fountain and a fountain bowl also have to be completely rebuilt. The fountain will be relocated there as part of the development of this area.
