Opening of the 2019 fountain season
Commissioning of the water fountain in the castle pond in mid-March
The city of Chemnitz's fountain season will open on Friday 12 April with the commissioning of the renovated fountain at Am Roten Turm (Stadthallenpark). The water fountain in the castle pond will start operating in mid-March, depending on the weather. You will be informed in good time by press release. From 12 April until 24 May 2019, the 20 fountains in the Chemnitz city area will then gradually start to bubble. These are in detail:
- Völkerfreundschaft fountain (Straße der Nationen)
- Umbrella fountain (Street of Nations)
- Children's fountain (Street of Nations)
- Wedding fountain at the IHK building (Straße der Nationen)
- Rosenhof fountain (in front of the tower block)
- Zipper fountain (castle pond island)
- Castle pond fountain (castle pond)
- Ginkgo fountain basin (Rosenhof)
- Sachsenhalle water basin (Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße)
- Fountain stone Grüna (Hexenberg)
- Fountain at the market hall (Seeberplatz)
- Azzano fountain (Am Rathaus street, next to Kaufhof building)
- Saxonia (Johannisplatz)
- Park of Youth (Schloßbergpark)
- Illuminated fountain (castle pond)
- Ball fountain - Röhrsdorf
- Brüh-Boulevard fountain
- Jakobikirchplatz water feature
- Hair washing" fountain in Albertipark/Sonnenberg
- Am Roten Turm fountain (Stadthallenpark)
The renovated Am Roten Turm fountain and the new water feature built last year on Jakobikirchplatz will certainly be the main attractions in the new fine weather season. The Brühl Boulevard fountain will also be newly renovated in 2019.
Unfortunately, the fountain at the bus station had to be taken out of service last summer due to massive leaks. A refurbishment concept will determine the need for refurbishment and the costs for restoring its functionality. Only then can a timeline for re-commissioning be drawn up, taking into account the available budget.
The future design of the Brückenstraße area will also take into account the renovation of the Teichrosen basin and the Prisma fountain so that this area can once again bubble with water.
For the maintenance of the fountains, 75,000 euros were allocated to the municipal budget for the 2019 financial year and 90,000 euros annually from the 2020 financial year. In addition, companies and associations are sponsoring contributions in kind and in cash for the maintenance and management of the fountains.
Eight of the above-mentioned fountains are managed by the supplier eins energie on the basis of a service contract.
