Commissioning of the water fountain in the castle pond on 13 April
In keeping with tradition, the city of Chemnitz's fountain season will open on Friday 13 April with the commissioning of the new water fountain in the castle pond. In the days that follow, a total of 17 fountains in the city of Chemnitz will be bubbling away until 25 May. These are in detail:

The Am Roten Turm fountain (in Stadthallenpark) is currently being renovated and will only be put into operation once the renovation is complete. When renovation work began in autumn 2017, the structure was found to be very wet. The fountain had to be completely dry before the new sealing materials could be installed. Mild temperatures are also a prerequisite for the construction work. The costs here currently amount to 125,000 euros. Further renovation measures are not ruled out. However, this can only be checked after the repair work has been completed. The facility was built in 1974 and rebuilt and refurbished for the first time in 2001 after 27 years at a cost of around DM 2 million.
This year, the renovation of the fountain there is also planned as part of the design of the Brühl Boulevard. The costs amount to approx. 50,000 euros.
Furthermore, the "Haarwäsche" fountain in the newly created Alberti Park on Sonnenberg, which used to be located on Sonnenstraße, will be reinstalled and put back into operation by June 2018.
63,000 is currently earmarked for the maintenance of the fountains.
