Opening of the 2017 fountain season

Commissioning of the new water fountain in the castle pond on 13 April, 3 p.m.

On Maundy Thursday, 13 April, the City of Chemnitz's fountain season will be opened with the commissioning of the new water fountain in the castle pond in the presence of Mayor Michael Stötzer. The meeting point is at 3 pm on the castle pond island.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.

The new fountain system is state of the art and will characterise the appearance of the castle pond for many years to come. The water feature consists of a central jet with a maximum height of approx. 20 metres and a surrounding fountain ring with ten jets; in accordance with the rule of the "golden section" with a maximum height of approx. 8 metres.

The fountain is once again illuminated with white light in the evening. The new appearance of the castle pond fountain is thus based on the previous appearance. The new fountain floats in the water and is surrounded by a chain of buoys. For safety reasons, it is forbidden to enter the installation or drive within the surrounding chain of buoys.

The old installation remains as a fixed structure on the bottom of the pond and serves as an artificial island in the castle pond.

The cost of renewing the fountain totalled around 122,500 euros. The work was carried out by Wassertechnik Rostock GmbH & Co KG. The technical acceptance took place on 23 March 2017.

2017 fountain season starts on 13 April

The repair of the fountain will then begin in September 2017 in order to remedy both the considerable damage caused by vandalism and the causes of the increasing water losses due to leaks in the basins.
