Opening hours indoor and outdoor pools 2017
Outdoor pool season starts on 13 May and 20 May
At its meeting today, the school and sports committee provided information about the opening times of the city's indoor and outdoor pools this year. The season for the outdoor pools in Gablenz and Einsiedel will begin on Saturday 13 May. The Bernsdorf and Wittgensdorf outdoor pools will follow a week later, on Saturday 20 May. The staggering of the opening dates for the outdoor pools is due to the corresponding preparations and staffing requirements for the simultaneous operation of the indoor pools.
In the main season, i.e. during the school holidays, the outdoor pools are open from 10 am to 8 pm. In the low season from 11 am to 7 pm. During periods of exceptionally fine weather, the pools may open earlier in the mornings during the main season if there is demand. In this case, the pools can stay open longer in the evening in the low season. In contrast, shorter opening times are also considered if the weather is unsuitable for swimming.
During the outdoor pool season in the school holidays, maintenance and repair work is carried out in the indoor pools, as is the case every year. Their annual closing times are preferably used for this purpose.
Summer closing times of the indoor pools
Gablenz indoor swimming pool: due to construction work until autumn 2017
Südring indoor swimming pool: 26 - 31 calendar week 2017
Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool: expected to close at the end of 07/2017
City pool 25-metre hall: 26th - 28th week 2017
City pool 50-metre hall: 29th - 31st week 2017
City pool sauna: 24th - 37th week 2017
Gablenz indoor swimming pool
The building will undergo extensive refurbishment: the water and ventilation technology will be renewed, the fire protection concept will be implemented and the swimming pool will be refurbished accordingly. The Gablenz indoor pool will have to remain closed for these planned measures until probably autumn 2017. To compensate for this in public pool operations, the opening hours of the Chemnitz municipal pool and the "Am Südring" indoor pool have been extended to 6 p.m. at weekends until April for the time being. An economic evaluation of visitor numbers for the period in question will then be carried out.
Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool
The Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool will probably have to be closed at the end of July 2017 due to the unsafe load-bearing capacity of the pool and the ceilings of the pool walkway. The main user groups of the Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool are sports clubs, Chemnitz University of Technology, the police and the public swimming centre. For the 2017/18 school year, these four user groups must be divided equally between the available water areas according to demand in order to enable them to continue swimming.
It should be noted that the construction of the planned new 25-metre hall in Bernsdorf will create more water space than will be lost due to the closure of the old Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool.
Chemnitz municipal swimming pool
The refurbishment work will continue in stages this year. As this work will take place during the summer holidays, it will not lead to any restrictions on the planned operation of the pool. Thanks to the scheduled refurbishments of recent years, the city pool can also offer public swimming in both the 25-metre hall and the 50-metre hall during the outdoor pool season, with reduced opening hours depending on the season.
School swimming
The city of Chemnitz is obliged to guarantee school swimming. To this end, the opening and closing times of the indoor swimming pools for 2017 were discussed and agreed in advance with the Saxon Education Agency and the school transport authority.
Swimming clubs
To support the city's swimming clubs, which would be restricted in their preparation for competitions by the summer closing times of the indoor pools, and to take account of the summer weather conditions in Chemnitz in recent years, special opening times will also be offered in 2017 in the city pool for public use and training. As things stand at present, the 50-metre hall will be used first, followed by the 25-metre hall from 17 July.
Swimming on public holidays
The municipal pool also offers the opportunity to go swimming on public holidays.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on all public holidays, including Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, the pool and sauna are open to the public. This offer has proved its worth in recent years.
