Opening hours for indoor and outdoor pools 2020
Outdoor pool season starts on 9 and 16 May
At its meeting this week, the school and sports committee provided information about the opening times of the town's indoor and outdoor pools this year. The season for the outdoor pools in Gablenz and Wittgensdorf will begin on Saturday, 9 May. The Einsiedel outdoor pool will follow a week later, on Saturday 16 May. The Bernsdorf outdoor pool will remain closed until the end of 2022 due to the construction of the new indoor pool.
In the main season, the outdoor pools are open from 10 am to 8 pm. In the early and late season from 11 am to 6 pm and 11 am to 7 pm respectively. If the weather is exceptionally fine, the pools may stay open longer in the evening in the early and late season. The pool can also open earlier in the morning. This decision is made by the pool staff depending on the weather conditions and operational readiness. During the main season, the outdoor pools in Wittgensdorf (Tuesdays) and Gablenz (Thursdays) offer early swimming from 9 am.
During the outdoor pool season in the school holidays, maintenance and repair work is carried out in the indoor pools, as is the case every year. Their annual closing times are preferably used for this purpose.

School swimming
Guaranteeing school swimming is a mandatory task for the city of Chemnitz. To this end, the opening and closing times of the indoor swimming pools for 2020 were discussed and agreed in advance with the State Office for Schools and Education and the school swimming centre.
Swimming clubs
To support the city's swimming clubs, which are restricted in their preparation for competitions due to the summer closing times of the indoor pools, and for swimmers who would also like to use an indoor pool during the summer school holidays, special opening times will also be offered in 2020 in the city pool for public use and training. As things stand at present, the 50-metre hall will be open from 15 June to 19 July and from 10 to 30 August, followed by the 25-metre hall from 20 July to 9 August.
During the school holidays, clubs preparing for international competitions can apply for special training opportunities at specified times.
Swimming on public holidays
The municipal pool also offers the opportunity to go swimming on public holidays and special closing days. On these days, the pool and sauna are open to the public from 9 am to 3 pm. This offer has proved its worth in recent years.
