Opening and closing times between Christmas and New Year

Chemnitz City Administration
On Tuesday, 24, Friday, 27 and Tuesday, 31 December 2013, the offices of the City Administration as well as the Citizens' Service Centre in the Bürgerhaus am Wall will also be closed on Saturday, 28 December 2013.

Swimming pools

On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, only the municipal swimming pool (50-metre hall and mixed sauna) will be open from 9 am to 3 pm. Last admission to the indoor swimming pool is one hour before closing time, last admission to the sauna is two hours before closing time.

The other indoor pools are closed on the above-mentioned days. From 27 to 30 December, all Chemnitz indoor pools can be used as normal.

Zoo and wildlife park

Both facilities will once again be open to visitors on 24 December and 31 December: Tierpark: 9 am to 2 pm, last admission 1 pm; Wildgatter: 8 am to 2 pm. The zoo is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm from November to February and the wildlife park from 8 am to 4 pm from October to March.

Tip: The following offers are available at weekends (21/22 December, 25/26 December and 28/29 December) and on 1 January 2014:

10.30 a.m.: Short guided tour and show feeding in the vivarium (poison dart frogs);

11 a.m.: Camel feeding;

2 p.m.: Show feeding of the sloths in the tropical house;

2.30 pm: Show feeding of the meerkats

and daily from 21 December (also weekdays), 3:15 pm: Feeding of the porcupines and every Sunday, 11 am: Feeding of the giant salamanders in the vivarium.

Chemnitz Municipal Music School

The Municipal Music School will be closed from 23 December 2013 to 3 January 2014. Otherwise, the following opening hours apply for the Municipal Music School: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 10 am to 12 noon, Tuesday and Thursday: 10 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm.

Chemnitz Art Collections

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, public holidays 11 am to 6 pm, closed on 24 and 31 December 2013. Tip: Public guided tours take place at weekends and on public holidays. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the following special exhibitions are on display: until 5 January 2014 "... an almost silent symbiosis of vibrations. The artist friendship between Franz Mon and Carlfriedrich Claus", until 19 January 2014 "Georg Baselitz and John Bock. Designs for Le Grand Macabre", until 9 February "Imi Knoebel. Windows for Reims Cathedral".

Museum Gunzenhauser

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, public holidays 11 am to 6 pm, closed 24 and 31 December 2013. Tip: Public guided tours take place at weekends and on public holidays. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the exhibition "JAWLENSKY revisited" is on display until 27 April 2014.

Castle Hill Museum

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, public holidays 11 am to 6 pm, closed 24 and 31 December 2013. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the special exhibition "Railway meets doll's house. Exquisite toys from the first quarter of the 20th century".

Van de Velde Museum

The Henry van de Velde Museum is also open on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Opening hours: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.

Please note: The Henry van de Velde Museum in Villa Esche will be closed from 6 January to 17 January 2014 due to the annual parquet maintenance.

TIETZ House

City Library: All City Library facilities will be closed on 24 and 31 December 2013. The usual opening hours apply from 27 to 30 December 2013 and from 2 January 2014. Media can be returned via the return machine in Haus Tietz at the following times: 24 December: 6 am to 2 pm, 25 December: 10 am to 6 pm, 26 December: 10 am to 6 pm, 31 December: 6 am to 2 pm and 1 January 2014: 10 am to 6 pm.

Museum of Natural History: The Museum of Natural History is closed on 24 and 31 December 2013. On public holidays it is open from 10 am to 6 pm. Otherwise the regular opening hours apply.

Adult Education Centre: The Adult Education Centre office will be closed from 16 December 2013 to 3 January 2014. However, ongoing courses will take place.

NSG: The Neue Sächsische Galerie will be closed on 24, 25 and 31 December 2013 and 1 January 2014. On 26 December it will be open from 11 am to 5 pm.

Industrial Museum

Open on Christmas Eve, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (engine workshop and DKW only) and museum educational programme from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, on 25 and 26 December 2013, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in each case, the museum will be closed on 27 December 2013, and on 28 and 29 December 2013 it will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 29 December 2013 is open from 10 am to 5 pm, on 30 December 2013 is open from 9 am to 5 pm, on 31 December 2013 and 1 January 2014 the museum is closed.
